Our skin is the largest organ we have and it is also the most neglected one! You might be astounded but it is true. We are so busy trying to excel in our jobs and daily lives that skincare just appears to be a frivolous activity
In addition, no showering and using a basic cleanser does not count as skin care (though it is important and hygienic).
It might seem like an overstatement but your skin health often plays a very subtle but strong role in your daily life. Everyone wants that glowing, soft skin that seems so out of reach, especially now that winters are here. Winters are notorious for leaving us with cracked lips and scaly skin..ugh! But fret no more and keep reading because we have compiled a list of everything you need to maintain healthy, envious skin all throughout the winters.
“Stay hydrated” is perhaps the most commonly heard words whenever someone talks about getting clear skin. And there is a point to that—it works, undoubtedly. Drinking water religiously is the cheapest and easiest way to get healthy skin, ask any expert. So ditch the sodas and the slurpies and aim to get in at least 8 glasses of water daily.
Limit the hot showers
Hot showers are miniature heaven, don’t you think so? But the thing is hot showers strip your skin of moisture. And combine that with the dry winter air and what you are left with is flaky, extremely dry skin.
I’m not telling you to ditch them altogether (God no!) but try to aim for lukewarm water whenever possible instead of scalding hot. But if you are one of those people who just can’t function without hot showers, well, try to limit it to a maximum of 10 minutes.
Moisturising is so much of a pain, isn’t it? We barely have time to get up in the morning and now there are these ads on the TV constantly reminding us to moisturize after a shower. Who wants that?
Well, people who want healthy skin do! Moisturising regularly keeps your skin soft and plump protecting it from the harsh winter air. Sure it’s an extra 2 minutes of your life but it’s just 2 minutes and the payoffs are so much better!! But if you can’t spare even two minutes, I suggest you invest in a 2-in-1 shower gel that moisturizes while in the shower itself. You’re welcome by the way.
Another thing that people start getting lackadaisical about in the winters is the use of sunscreen. There is no sun you might say but the fact is applying sunscreen is about so much more than just preventing suntan. Sunscreens with SPF and UVA and UVB filters help prevent skin cancer and other skin diseases.
So slather it on before you step out!
Exercise seems like the go-to remedy for everything, doesn’t it? Well, the fact is, when you exercise, you sweat and sweating is good for the skin. It opens up your pores and leads to rush of blood throughout the body which helps flush out toxins and keep your skin clear and glowing.
This is probably the only thing on this list that might require you to shell out a little money but trust me, it is an investment well made. Humidifiers moisturize your skin (which is essential in the winters) and also make it easier to breathe (goodbye cold!). So you can have that vibrant, glowy look throughout winters.
Get some C
This winter tries eating more of citrus fruits and other foods rich in vitamin C. Vitamin C boosts the production of collagen giving you supple and healthy skin. If your diet is lacking in vitamin CC, you can easily get them in tablet form from any chemist.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will automatically get you healthy, envious skin. However, it is important to know that acne and dry skin are completely normal too. Everybody has them and different things work for different people. Once you discover something that works for you, stick with it.
The point is, having healthy skin is not just a series of steps. It is the result of it. So stop fretting and start hydrating
